Her Majesty – The Potato You may smile and  ask yourself , why, this simple produce. Why is it a queen, a majesty. I am going to show you why and then you can understand why it gets just the title of a noble plant. First of all, it is the number one vegetable  crop in the world. It is known almost everywhere and eaten in various styles. This plant belongs to a group called nightshade plants. This group includes tomatoes, eggplants, peppers and tomatillos. They are the swollen part of the underground stem . This is called a tuber. It is designed to provide food for the green leafy portion of the plant.  If this plant is allowed to flower and the flower becomes a fruit,  this fruit that cannot be eaten and it resembles a tomato. The potato brings numerous health benefits  Unfortunately, most people eat potatoes as French fries or potato chips, both full of  fat. Even the baked potatoes are not consumed just as such but filled with butter, sour cream, melted cheese or bacon. If consumed with such a heavy load of fat, the potato is a potential contributor to a heart attack. Take away the extra fat . If eaten just plain, a baked potato is exceptionally healthful. It brings low calories, high fiber content and offers important protection against cardiovascular disease and cancer. The potato is a very good source of vitamin C, a good source of vitamin B6, (which enhances your good mood) of minerals like copper, potassium, manganese and as already mentioned dietary fibers.
